A Chinese programmer known as "Hu Lezhi" has burned and donated Ethereum cryptocurrency worth approximately $7 million while leaving disturbing messages about alleged mind control technology on the blockchain.
The individual burned 603 ETH (worth $1.6 million) and donated another 1,950 ETH ($5.3 million) while encoding messages that accused executives at Chinese hedge fund Wizard Quant of using "brain-computer weapons" to control employees.
In the encrypted messages, Lezhi specifically named Feng Xin, co-founder of Wizard Quant, and Xu Yuzhi, the fund's chief investment officer, claiming they deployed brain-computer chips "to control all citizens" and turn them into "complete slaves to the digital machine."
The programmer, who described himself as "an ordinary computer programmer and entrepreneur," stated he had been controlled by "the mind control organization" since birth but only became aware of the alleged manipulation in October 2022.
The messages took an even darker turn when Lezhi expressed suicidal thoughts, writing: "I have been very painful in the past two years. Now I have completely lost my dignity as a human being. I have decided to leave this world."
While the claims appear highly unusual, the substantial financial sacrifice of $7 million to broadcast these messages has drawn attention to the case. Attempts to reach Wizard Quant for comment were unsuccessful.
The Ethereum blockchain's ability to encode messages within transactions created a permanent record of Lezhi's allegations, though their veracity remains unconfirmed.
