Flexa has unveiled the world's first NFC-based hardware wallet payment system for cryptocurrencies, enabling users to make direct blockchain payments through contactless transactions at retail locations.

The innovative system allows cryptocurrency holders to complete in-person payments without requiring a mobile phone or internet connection. Users can simply tap their compatible hardware wallet, such as a Burner card, at Flexa-enabled point-of-sale terminals to process transactions directly on the blockchain.

"By enabling the first NFC-based crypto payments directly from hardware wallets, we're providing a better, more instant way to spend digital assets on the go," said Trevor Filter, cofounder of Flexa.

The payment process mirrors the simplicity of traditional contactless card payments - users enter a PIN on the merchant's terminal and tap their hardware wallet to authorize the transaction. This streamlined approach eliminates common friction points in cryptocurrency payments, which typically require mobile phones and active internet connections.

Initially, the feature will be available at merchants using Flexa's Point of Sale app for iPhone and Android devices. The company plans to expand support to include offline payments from mobile wallets incorporating the Flexa SDK.

Cameron Robertson, Founder and CEO at Arx Research, highlighted the benefits for Burner wallet users: "Instead of scanning QR codes or fumbling with apps, users can just tap their Burner and go. Working with Flexa means we're making crypto as easy to spend as cash—without sacrificing control or security."

The technology will be showcased at the Digital Spenders Club booth during ETHDenver 2025, with broader merchant availability expected through partner point-of-sale platforms later this year. This development represents a notable step forward in integrating cryptocurrency payments into everyday retail transactions.

As the first platform to enable direct blockchain transactions through hardware wallets, Flexa's new system could help accelerate the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency payments in retail settings.
