The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans to host four additional cryptocurrency-focused roundtable discussions between April and June 2024, building on its recent efforts to refine digital asset regulation.

The upcoming series, organized by the SEC's Crypto Task Force, will address key areas of the cryptocurrency sector at the agency's Washington D.C. headquarters. Each session will be accessible both in-person and via live stream on SEC.gov.

The schedule includes:

  • April 11: "Between a Block and a Hard Place: Tailoring Regulation for Crypto Trading"
  • April 25: "Know Your Custodian: Key Considerations for Crypto Custody"
  • May 12: "Tokenization – Moving Assets Onchain: Where TradFi and DeFi Meet"
  • June 6: "DeFi and the American Spirit"

"The roundtables provide a platform for expert discussions about regulatory issues and solutions," said Commissioner Hester Peirce, who leads the task force.

This initiative follows the task force's first session held in March 2024, which examined applying securities laws to digital assets. The expanded series reflects a shift in the SEC's approach to cryptocurrency regulation under Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda, who established the task force in January.

In-person attendance requires advance registration and security clearance, though space is limited. Virtual access is available without registration, and recordings will be posted afterward.

The roundtables align with recent policy changes at the SEC, including plans to revise proposed rules on crypto custody standards for investment advisers and oversight of alternative trading systems. This marks an evolution from previous regulatory positions as the agency works to develop clear frameworks for the growing digital asset industry.
