South Korea's picturesque Jeju Island is embracing digital innovation by introducing NFT-based tourist cards aimed at attracting younger visitors, particularly Generation Z travelers. The subtropical island paradise announced plans to launch these unique digital collectibles in the second half of 2025.

The NFT-powered visitor cards will offer various perks including travel discounts, subsidies, and special access to attractions across the island. Tourists using these digital passes will also be able to document their journey by recording locations, timestamps, photos, and videos of their experiences.

This initiative builds on Jeju Island's existing blockchain ventures, which began in 2019 with the introduction of a local stablecoin called Tamna Jeon. The island has since expanded its digital offerings to include traffic management systems and VAT refunds for international visitors.

Known for its volcanic landscapes, golden beaches, and unique cultural elements like the Haenyeo female divers, Jeju Island hopes this tech-forward approach will resonate with millennials and Gen Z travelers who are increasingly interested in digital assets and unique experiences.

The announcement comes as global NFT adoption shows signs of recovery in 2023 after experiencing a plateau since mid-2022. While specific details about the blockchain network that will host these NFTs remain undisclosed, the island's authorities are positioning this initiative as part of their broader strategy to modernize tourism infrastructure.

This innovative approach represents a blend of traditional tourism with emerging technology, as the autonomous province works to establish itself as a forward-thinking destination that caters to the digital preferences of younger generations.
